Dr. S. K. Cyril Suduwella Honored with Honorary Doctorate in Science and Technology by Global Human Peace University

Chennai | 28th June 2025 – Global Human Peace University (GHPU) proudly conferred the prestigious Honorary Doctorate in Science and Technology upon Dr. S. K. Cyril Suduwella, recognizing his outstanding contributions to scientific research, technological innovation, and public service.

With over four decades of experience, Dr. Suduwella has been a pivotal figure in Sri Lanka’s scientific and industrial sectors. His academic journey began with a B.Sc. (Special) in Chemistry from the University of Peradeniya, followed by an M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Colombo, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology from the Institute of Industrial Technology in Urbino, Italy. Further enhancing his expertise, he underwent specialized training in Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry in Switzerland, Human Resource Management in Thailand, and Corporate Management in Belgium.

Professionally, Dr. Suduwella has held several key positions, including Acting Chairman and Senior Deputy General Manager (Corporate Affairs, Administration, and Business Development) at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. His leadership extended to roles such as Chairman of the Sugarcane Research Institute and the Waste Management Authority in Sri Lanka. Internationally, he collaborated with Techno Systems in Japan, contributing to the development of ultra-low sulfur diesel and advanced water purification systems.

An esteemed academic, Dr. Suduwella has served as a lecturer in Chemistry at the University of Kelaniya and the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. His research interests encompass petroleum refining, renewable energy, environmental pollution control, and the conversion of natural products into valuable industrial chemicals. Notably, he has been instrumental in projects aimed at converting high-sulfur diesel into low-sulfur variants and developing biofuels from alternative sources

Beyond his scientific endeavors, Dr. Suduwella has played a significant role in policy-making and governance. He has been a member of various boards and councils, including the University of Vocational Technology and the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka. His expertise has been sought in areas ranging from petroleum and lubricants consultancy to advising on science and technology for national development.
